University societies: close up

student societies

By theunipod,

We’re not into taking sides here at theunipod, but these were some of the universities with a great assortment of student societies that caught our eye during our research here in the UK.

Cardiff University

Wow – the guys in Wales certainly know how to cater for a range of interests. The Cardiff University Students Union has over 80 different clubs and societies you could join, including:

  • Cardiff Snakecharmers Cheerleading Club
  • Clay Pigeon Shooting Club
  • Kung Fu Club
  • Bell Ringing Society
  • Chaos Society (we reckon that’s our kinda group!)

Nottingham University

Ok, there’s one thing we want to know. When there’s over 200 university societies how do you choose which ones to be a part of? There’s so many awesome clubs on offer here, including:

  • Belly Dance Society
  • Comedy Society (we bet that’s a laugh a minute!)
  • Debating Union
  • History Society
  • Jumpers for Goal Posts (say what?!)

Sheffield University

Not to be outdone by their northern counterparts, Sheffield University has some pretty wicked university societies to become a part of as well, including:

  • Collectible Card Gaming Society
  • Documentary Society
  • Gentlemen’s Society
  • Natural History Society
  • United Nations Youth and Student Association

Leeds University

It really is all happening in the north. Check out some of the university societies we found on offer at Leeds University:

  • Arabic Cultural Club
  • Circus Skills Society
  • ShockSoc Society (for those clever electronic and electrical engineering students)
  • Korfball
  • Stitch and Bitch Society

London

And of course we had to check out what university societies were on offer in the capital:

  • Revelation Rock-Gospel Choir
  • Hip Hop Society
  • Sub-Aqua Club (we had to look that one up!)
  • Mountaineering Club
  • Harry Potter Society (we knew there was going to be at least one of those!)

Want to tell us about your one and have it featured? – just flick us an email. We’d love to hear what you and your group are up to, however, weird, wacky or normal it may be!
